FPL Solar PV Rebate Program Opens Oct. 16

FPL Solar Photovoltaic Electric (PV) Rebates for 2013

FPL solar rebates helped these homeowners install solar PV on their home.

It’s that time of year – the leaves are changing, cooler weather is on the way, football is back – and Florida’s largest utility is opening its solar photovoltaic (PV) rebate program.

It’s opening for both commercial and residential customers. This post will cover the residential rebate. Commercial applicants can contact us for information here.

I’ve covered the process before in this post. But, if you’re new here, I’ll recap the process for you.

All residential FPL customers are eligible to apply for a solar PV rebate on their primary residence. FPL will pay a very generous cash rebate of $2.00/watt DC for systems ranging in size from 2,000 watts to 10,000 watts. That is between $4,000 and $20,000 toward the installed cost of your system. Trust me, that’s a ton of cash. If you pair that up with the 30% Federal Tax Credit, it can cover over half of the installed cost of your system. Here’s how you can get some of that money:

1) Have a qualified, state certified solar contractor perform a complete site survey and detailed performance analysis (You should run away from any company that uses a “guesstimate” as to how much energy your system will provide, watch for an upcoming video blog on that.)

2) Prepare your rebate reservation checklist and sign up for an online account with FPL

3) On October 16th, 2012 at 8:30 AM, submit your rebate reservation through FPL’s website.

I cannot stress how important it is that you be ready to apply at 8:30 AM SHARP! 8:35 will likely be too late. The last rebate sold out in 3 minutes!

The FPL program is a first-come, first-served program. Once your rebate reservation is approved, the money is yours and no one can take it from you as long as you comply with the guidelines.

FPL does require that the work be completed by a state certified contractor, and does not allow for DIY installations or used equipment.

Does all of this sound complicated? No  need to worry, a good contractor worth their salt will have everything packaged up nicely for you and walk you through it.

We are still able to take on a few more customers for this round of rebates if you are looking to install your system anywhere in east Central Florida. You can reach us here, but time is running out!

Progress Energy has announced the start date and time of its popular SunSense solar rebate program. The program will begin accepting applications at 10:00 AM on October 1, 2012.

Progress Energy will fund $1.9 Million worth of rebates in increments from $4,000 to $20,000 to qualified residential customers. The process is a first-come, first-served model where applications will be reviewed and approved as they are received until the funds are exhausted. The funds are expected to go quickly as they have in previous years.

Visit their website here and make sure you follow the application guidelines if you are interested in securing a rebate for your project.

Please note that your contractor MUST submit a detailed site survey in order for you to qualify for the funds. If your contractor has not given this to you in your estimate, you will not be able to receive rebate funds. (If you need a proper site survey completed, contact us today!)

Good luck!

UPDATE: 2012 FPL Solar Rebates to Re-Open May 3rd

UPDATE: FPL has announced the solar rebates will be released Thursday May 3rd, 2012 at 8:30am.

Ready. Set. Go!

The next installment in the mad dash to grab some solar rebate money in FPL’s service area is about to start. If you need to refresh your memory on what rebates you can apply for, click here for solar PV (electric), and click here for solar water heating.

According to my sources inside FPL, it looks like next Tuesday, April 24th, will be the day FPL releases the remaining funds for solar PV and solar water heaters.

The total funding amount is not available yet, but the website should be updated soon.

If you’ve been putting off your solar project, now’s the time to take advantage if you can. (Shameless plug alert: If you live in Brevard or Volusia counties and want to take advantage of the rebates, click here.)

I’ll update the blog once we confirm the date and time.

Good luck!

Breaking: FPL Solar Rebate Program Delayed

****UPDATE**** FPL has announced it will open the solar rebate program on Wednesday, June 29 at 8:30 am. Applications will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.

If you were waiting to apply for the FPL solar rebates this morning, you will have to wait just a little while longer.

At 8:30 am today, Florida Power and Light (FPL) opened the application process to pay rebates up to $20,000 for residential solar photovoltaic systems and $1,000 for residential solar water heating. Previously, we outlined the application process for both solar water heating and solar photovoltaics. Due to a technical glitch, FPL shut down the site without taking a single application.

This was just posted on FPL’s solar rebate page:

“FPL.com experienced some difficulties this morning unrelated to the launch of the solar rebate program. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience. If you want to submit an application for a solar rebate, please be assured that it will not affect your ability to be considered for the program. We have not begun to take applications. We will communicate a new time and date that the program will launch soon. At that time, we will take applications on a first-come, first-served basis.”

We will monitor this situation and update you as soon as the new date and time are announced.

That also means that it’s not too late to look at solar for your home. Call a licensed solar contractor today to get a free estimate.
